Talking about ‘Queen Mary University of London recent achievement, it’s known that they have attained the topmost status amongst the ‘Russell Group’ for the ‘Social Mobility’ which is indeed a big victory for the entire QMUL management. In relevance with the same context, ‘Institute of Fiscal Sciences‘ published a collaborative report in November 2021 with Sutton Trust & Department for Education which declared ‘Queen Mary University of London’ as the ‘Best University for Social Mobility in the UK. With constant success, it’s been a good time for QMUL.

Professor ( David Phoenix ~ London South Bank University) is the main man behind the development of this ‘Social Mobility Index’ who stated that this multi-purpose index is highly advantageous for calculating various universities based on numerous factors. From detailed individual university inspection, in-depth analysis about how many students from impoverished backgrounds got benefitted to what percentage of students grabbed a successful job opportunity, different factors are evaluated based on which a perfect social mobility index is denoted to each university. Although, 2022 saw a slight change in this methodology & it was mentioned that now the universities will also be analyzed based on this factor that how many students from weak financial backgrounds have been helped by the university & grabbed a successful job opportunity.

He further stated that the UK Government has been flooding universities with huge funding proposals so universities must showcase what kind of education, facilities & benefits they have been delivering to their students. He also wishes that this recent change in the procedure of the social mobility index will act as a beneficial factor for the universities in analysing their work contribution (vision & mission) in pertinence to student’s education.

About this achievement, Professor Colin Bailey (Current President & Principal of the Queen Mary University of London ) stated that being ranked consecutively for 2 years at the 3rd position along with other popular UK universities in the Russell Group for English Social Mobility Index is a big accomplishment for them & it’s been a fantastic journey so far. He also said that apart from this everyone was also very happy when it was announced by Sutton Trust & Department for Education & Institute of Fiscal Sciences (November 2021) that QMUL is the best university in the UK ( as mentioned above). As per his opinion, Professor David Phoenix stated that both the reports depict a different perspective. For him & the entire QMUL management team supporting students from less deprived backgrounds to outshine as successful professionals is their core motto & that’s exactly what they wish to provide to the students. It doesn’t matter from which background a student belongs, it matters that QMUL has made good progress in terms of opening doors for students from different backgrounds & has been looking forward to supporting & encouraging them in the best possible manner.

Moreover, about the education & social mobility index, Rt Hon Michelle Donelan (MP) from Minister of State for Higher & Further Education, UK stated that the entire government and different university fraternities should come together to celebrate the success of those universities that make it to the highest level of the social mobility index. In clear words, he means to say that those who contribute to the social mobility index in the educational world are the real champions who make it to the top rather than just getting a place on the list. He also asserted that he’s extremely impressed with the initiative taken by the new league tables whose sole purpose is to focus on those UK universities that seriously aim to bring a significant change in the education timeline. Few such UK universities that have been called to attention by the new league tables for the purpose of changing massive student lives are Queen Mary University of London, Bradford & Aston.
