University of Dundee Performs Research on Kidney Failure Patients

Latest research performed by Dr Samira Bell (Chair of Scottish Renal Registry – University of Dundee) on behalf of ‘Public Health Scotland’ showcased that all the dialysis & kidney failure patients are at major risk of getting attacked with this fatal infection of COVID-19 even after taking both the doses of vaccine. The results also stated that these individuals are at higher risk of death unlike other people & need to take 3rd dose of the vaccine & if required 4th one too for boosting up the immune system.
Kidney transplant patients have low immunity & getting infected with COVID-19 ultimately reduces their immunity at a drastic level which leads to death & other lethal conditions. To prevent such unwanted circumstances various measures have been implemented by the health & medicine department from all across the globe. Various health experts have stated that 1st & 2nd doses of vaccine reduce the health risk but still, numerous people have been infected from COVID-19 even after taking both doses of the vaccine. Recently, the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology demonstrated that taking two doses of a vaccine leaves its impact on the body only for a limited period post which complications can arise in kidney dialysis & transplant patients.
Dr Samira Bell ( Clinical Senior Lecturer – School of Medicine – University of Dundee ) stated that they have examined both the kidney dialysis & transplant patients who have undertaken both the first two of COVID-19 vaccines in Scotland. The team also studied what impact does COVID-19 vaccines leaves on dialysis & transplant patients via the linkage of real-world data for the entire range of patients from Scotland.
She also said that the core motto of the research was to analyse the impact of both the vaccine doses on the COVID-19 infection rate, death risk and hospitalisation. The final results also showed that despite vaccination 9% of kidney transplant patients are at severe health risk. All of this led to the fact that patients under this category (dialysis & kidney transplant) should immediately take 3rd & 4th doses of vaccine to reduce the health risk & covid infection.
