QMUL is honoured for its efficient work in the field of Gender & Equality

On this achievement, QMUL was congratulated by Professor Colin Bailey (President & Principal of QMUL) who expressed his joy & stated that he’s very happy that QMUL’s work in the field of “Gender Equality” is recognized at a global level. The effort put in by the QMUL staff for promoting gender equality is the main reason which led to this success. Seeing their generous effort, QMUL has once again been awarded the “Athena Swan Silver Award” by the “Athena Swan Charter” rewarding committee. He also stated that QMUL follows the vision of becoming the most inclusive university globally by 2030 and that’s the reason the university is focusing more on representing gender equality so that doors are open for students from all genders across the university. For him it’s a very proud moment and seeing the historical aspects implemented along with the diversity & inclusivity makes this moment full of gratitude & he wishes that this significant contribution towards gender equality is carried forever by the university management.

Talking about the award ,i.e, “Athena Swan Silver Award” received by the QMUL well it’s a notable honor which is given to those universities who encourage and promote women’s progress in the field of science, engineering, maths, technology and medicine basically in STEMM Department whilst motivating them to pursue their career in the same. Later, the rewarding committee “Athena Swan Charter” formed in 2005 chose to broaden its Charter & started focusing on those educational institutions that are working for the growth of gender equality and are also highlighting its importance all across the globe.

Apart from various other UK universities, QMUL is another university that has won Athena Swan Silver Award” and this time it’s their 2nd award while previously in 2017 they have also been honoured with the same reward. In 2008, QMUL has been honoured with the Athena Swan Bronze Award” too. For making a better environment for students & staff of all genders this university has taken significant measures and has successfully achieved its aim.   • Decreased women’s over publication of fixed-term contracts
  • Constantly encouraged the circle of women who belong to the “Black & Ethnic Minority” background

  • More women were appointed as lectures
  • The diversity of readers at the Board level was increased and more women were included in the team

The spokesperson of Culture & Inclusion & Chair of the Gender Equality Action Group at QMUL also congratulated the university on this achievement and stated that it’s a very prestigious moment for the university as it’s winning this award for the 2nd time. She also stated that this award is a result of all the hard work which is put forward by the university to make a safe & secure atmosphere for staff and students of all genders residing at QMUL.
